Associated Clients on a Project
Invoicing a main contractor or agent for work on a project that another client owns.
Associated Clients on a Project
A project belongs to one client — its owner. Sometimes another client pays for work there: a main contractor building a clinic for the company that owns it, or a managing agent instructed by the landlord. Associating that client with the project lets you invoice them for it, while the project, its systems and its logbook stay with the owner.
Open a project and choose Associated Clients under the People group.
Associating a Client
Click Add Client, then choose:

Associate Client saves it, and the change appears in the project's activity. Each card has Edit, to change the role or the notes, and Remove. The card also counts the invoices on this project that are billed to that client, and their total.
What It Changes
Everywhere you choose a project for a client, the list now holds the projects that client owns and the ones it is associated with. That covers invoices, estimates, purchase orders, supplier quotes, jobs, certificates, risk assessments and power schedules. On an invoice each project carries its owner's name underneath, so the two kinds are easy to tell apart.
On a document you can switch the client between the owner and an associated client and the project stays selected; choose a client with no tie to the project and it is cleared.
Two places show the result:
- The project's Documents tab has a Billed to column on its invoices, so you can see who paid for what. The project's revenue counts every invoice linked to it, whoever it is billed to.
- The client's Projects tab lists Associated projects below the ones it owns, with the owner and the role.
An associated client gets no portal access to the project. Their portal users see their own invoices and estimates as before; the project page, its systems, logbook, meters and switches are visible to the owner's contacts only.
Removing an associated client does not unlink anything: documents already pointing at the project keep pointing at it. It only stops new documents for that client from offering the project.
